"I think she really likes that."

Teaching Emma how to read

There's no better place to start than the classics:

I mean, it is the greatest book ever

Meeting the grandparents

They're fun, but total pushovers. Jonathan really broke them in well.

Meeting the bear

Mom and Dad said they've got a bear they use to measure everyone's size, so since it's my one-week birthday today, I got to visit with him on the couch. He's pretty big, but Jonathan says the bear shrinks every month.

Here's what he and I look like together.

He's surprisingly comfy.

For comparison's sake, here's what Jonathan looked like next to the bear at one month old (which is the same as me today, since he was three weeks early being born):

And here's how Jonathan looks today next to that guy:

He may be onto something with the shrinking theory.

Comfy couch

You just don't understand how easy it is to sleep here all day.

Look what I found!

Jonathan: "I think she likes me a lot!"

That's no surprise to us, little guy. She's gonna love you tons.

Hello, world! Part 2

It's been a little while since my brother introduced himself on this blog, so I thought maybe it was time we tried some non-Jonathan postings on here too. I mean, he's pretty awesome, but he isn't the only one who can bring the awesome in this family. Just consider my vital stats:

Name -- Emma Angelina
Weight -- 7 pounds, 15 ounces
Length -- 20.5 inches
Birthdate -- Sept. 14, 2014, at 12:03pm
Father -- Capt. Awesome
Mother -- Mrs. Capt. Awesome
Brother -- Junior Awesome
First marital arts move -- Stare of death (performed five minutes into life)

Now, I don't want to come in here and disrupt all the great Jonathan pictures on the site. I just feel like I can help him step up the game here, increase our family's awesome by a factor of two.

That's like, twice as much awesome or something. I'm not sure. I'm only a few hours old, so my higher-level math is still rough. Jonathan has so much to teach me...

Learning to write

Grandmom Shane was down to hang out this week, so we worked on our handwriting together. I still need to practice a lot of my letters, but after I figured out how to do a "D" I had a great idea.

Needless to say, Dad was pretty excited.

Magic cards

Mom brought home a new deck of cards yesterday, and you'll never guess what happens when you put the letters on them in the right order.

Penmanship

Writing my letters with a pencil is still a work in progress, but my writing letters with matchbox cars is at a 8th-grade level. Now if Mom would just buy me about 100 more cars, I could spell my whole name.

Church party

Last weekend was the annual Labor Day festival at church -- it was really hot, so we weren't there for too long. But we did find time for a hay ride and some popcorn, which are two of the most exciting things ever.

And I got to ride a pony again! Since I'm bigger this year, I didn't need to have Mom or Dad walk around with me. It was great. But they wouldn't let me take the pony home. I think he really would have liked our back yard.

No-hitter!

I decided to wear my Phillies shirt spur of the moment on Monday, and I'm glad I did. No hits in a game sounds boring to me, but Dad was really excited.
